Expectations
- Inbound Fencing will take the most care when working in your yard, but would ask that the customer call "dial before you dig" and/or remove anything from near the fence line that they would worry about being damaged, as we take no responsibility for digging through any services, irrigation, or other. Anything deeper in the ground than 600mm won't be a problem. If the house is rendered and needs a post to be attached (for a gate or end panel) the render may chip or break away. You may need to get it repaired afterwards, if you aren't happy with this let us know and we will need to organise a way to do it without going into the wall before fence installation.
- The fence line will need to be clear for installers to walk up and down the fence line, and between the fence and our vehicle/materials. Please move any pots, plants, movable sheds etc. If there is something that can't be moved like a garage or tree, as long as the other side of the fence is clear that should be okay, but please just let us know.
- If we do need to move anything, we will leave it where we move it and not take it away. Things like branches that we may need to cut or vegetation taken off the fence will be left behind, and dirt dug up will be left along the fence line.
- We need decent weather and health in order to install, as such jobs may be delayed at any point (even if the job has started already) if there is rain forecast, or if rain or sickness has delayed other jobs prior to yours that may have a knock-on effect. The same may happen if the installers are sick, or if being sick has delayed jobs prior to yours that knocks the work back. We will let you know as soon as possible of any delays.
What We Need
- We need access to a power point within 25 metres of the fence. We can get it from a garage, out of a window or laundry, as long as we can get to it to plug in or unplug anything throughout the day. If you will be leaving the property and don't want the house to be unlocked, you could leave a cord hanging out a window so that if we need to pack up before you get home we are able to unplug and leave.
- A tap, anywhere outside the house is fine, just for us to get water for the concrete and to drink throughout the day.
- If possible please make a bathroom available to the installers while they are there, and let them know where it is, and if you have any rules like removing shoes, or being quiet if there are babies sleeping etc.
What You Should Consider
- Raking a fence is to cut the fence on a slope to match the slope of the ground (if there is one). It is the default way we will install the fence unless stepping is requested, the reason for this is that a stepped fence will have larger gaps underneath. Raking the fence will have it run parallel for any given panel to the ground, so if the ground has a few different slopes, the fence will match that.
- If your fence is raked then the final fence will be shorter by the amount of slope over 1m. This is hard to say how much before install, but for example if your property slopes down 100mm per metre (from level) then a 1.8m high fence will actually be 1.7m high as cutting the angle for the sheets loses height. If there are multiple slopes then the whole fence will be cut down to the largest slope to all line up. If you want to make sure of the height being the full height then let us know and we will order longer sheets for additional cost to maintain the height after cutting.
- Sleepers are usually recommended, especially if the ground is at all uneven, or if you have small pets. Colorbond® material is not supposed to be under the soil at all, so unless you have very flat property that is the same level as your neighbour there will be some gaps under the fence. Getting a treated pine sleeper base built into the fence will minimise this as it can go right up to or into the soil, and can be used as a barrier to small level changes between properties. Ask if you think you may need sleepers.
Extra Costs
Most of the time there should be no cost to you apart from what is specified in the original quote. Here are some reasons you may incur additional costs not quoted for:
- If there are any pests that get in the way of us safely doing the work on your property, the job will be stopped until that is sorted out at your cost. An example of this would be a wasps nest on or near the old fence that stops us from being able to safely work. We would be happy to call an exterminator and organise it at additional cost, or let you do that.
- If there is extra work not noticed at the quote, it may incur additional cost. An example of this would be if there is a concrete strip all along the fence line that was covered with soil and needs to be broken through to install the new fence. This could also be the case if there is vegetation along the fence that you didn't remove prior to install, or tree branches in the way of the new fence.
- Not meeting the payment terms, the next section explains payments. If the requirements aren't met it may lead to extra fees.
Payments
- We require a minimum of a 50% deposit prior to the start date (unless otherwise discussed via text or email), to partially cover the cost of materials.
- The final amount is to be paid on completion. This is owed by the person on the invoice. If you are having neighbours pay their portions, we would recommend having them pay the deposit, or ensure they pay right away when finished, as the responsibility for payment is on the person named on the invoice.
- We can accept payments by direct deposit, cash, or cheque. If you are paying by cash or cheque, payment will be required on completion of the fence, so you'll need to have that ready before we leave. If you are paying by direct deposit, payments will need to be in our account within 3 days of completion (to account for a delay over a weekend or first-time payments). If you think this will be a problem let us know before the job begins.
- All responsibility for payment is on the person invoiced, so if neighbours don't make their payments in time it will be the responsibility of the person invoiced to clear the account.
